Process Gas Chromatographs (GCs) have been the “go to technology” for Natural Gas (NG), and now biogas and Renewable Natural Gas (RNG) applications. The industry is familiar with the technology, they have been historically reliable, they typically offer explosion-proof enclosure options, and now the EPA Renewable Fuel Standard (RFS) has mandated them.
However, traditional GCs have limitations, including relatively slow response time, limited sensitivity, continual replacement of expensive carrier and calibration gas cylinders, the need for multiple detectors (TCD, FID, PID, IMS, etc.) to meet all of the measurement requirements, and long lead times to deliver them. These limitations significantly increase project costs, typically requiring multiple, expensive and dedicated analyzers, lengthy return loops to capture any off-spec gas, and ongoing replacement of expensive carrier and calibration gas cylinders, typically in the middle of nowhere.
That’s where the new Ei800 Series Process GC comes in. It offers all the benefits of the traditional GCs, while eliminating all of their limitations. The core difference is a Thermal Conductivity Detector (TCD) sensor technological breakthrough.
