On Tuesday, August 7th, a USPS processing and distribution center in Coppell, Texas experienced a mercury spill from a mailed package.
The spill was significant enough to shut down operations but quickly contained.
The U.S. Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) along with industrial hygiene companies were called in to perform measurements and remediation, following an established emergency protocol. The EPA’s preferred instruments for detecting mercury were the portable mercury vapor analyzers supplied by Ohio Lumex.
